Who is Ryan Bailey?

If words could describe The Ryan Bailey's and their music then I would gladly use them. It is therefore with regret that I have to tell you that I do not have those words. Instead I will tell about them. The Ryan Baileys comprise of David O Regan and David Sheehan a songwriting duo who are still learning the craft but are getting there slowly but surely. Their songwriting talents were brought together in the late summer of 2002 thanks to a chance meeting in David Sheehan's living room. The rest as they say is history. A history you do not know about so sit back and relax while I tell you.

Between August and October 2002 their first record, Mulhollhand, was recorded. If you havent gotten a copy of Mulholland e-mail us theryanbaileys@hotmail.com with your full postal address for a copy!. What followed was a spate of gigs. Three to be presise. Two were at open mics. These open mics were at Fred Zepplins and The New Bar at UCC. Next up was a gig with The Setbacks. Christmas came and went. About this time a new song was completed.

Armed with this song The Ryan Baileys took on the tough singer/songwriter competition scene. Here they came third in the UCC event and joint first in a similar event in the Bodega. 4 hours recording time and a support slot with the Man with The Hat secured, their thoughts turned to home. And it was there, at home, that they wrote more songs. 3 more and one orchestral masterpiece.

During Easter 2003, the Ryan Baileys recorded at Spectre Studios with Graham Finn of Bass Odyssy fame. The recording resulted in The Hoover Clinic Sessions(RBCD002).

The summer of 2003 came and the Ryan Baileys got lazy. The songs halted for a while. The spark that was needed to get the show back on the road was found in Caherdaniel in Nialls caravan. On this trip €4 was earned thanks to a bit of busking.

In October the Ryan Baileys played an above average gig at the Old College Bar. There is said to be a recording of that epic gig somewhere in the dusty vaults. Time will tell.

The Ryan Baileys own chronic laziness played havoc once again and it was Christmas before they even thought about doing anything. Motivation to practise was provided thanks to the UCC LMS Battle of the Bands. When it was announced that they had been drawn in a group of death, including Closely Ovserved Train, Standard Deviation and the nearly famous Revere (considering themselves too nearly famous for a battle of the bands competition, Revere pulled out and their place was taken by Kallus), The Ryan Baileys mopped their brows and decided they should practice. There were more tantrums and tiaras than practice much to their own disappointment. As a result, despite winning the crowd they did not qualify out of the group.

Next, the Ryan Baileys attention turned to the UCC LMS Singer/Songwriter competition. A new song was written and half practiced and along with the classic "Black", the Ryan Baileys took on the competition. Despite a pretty poor performance of the songs, the power the songs themselves shone threw. The Ryan Baileys were awarded second place.

And that people is the story so far...

So join The Ryan Baileys as they move towards the future.....
